Game8
Gillingham Town made the visit to Alvington to play Westlands sports and with both teams fresh off a midweek victories confidence was high.
For the first time all season it looked like GTFC would be able to put out the same team twice the Gills were rocked by late news Ryan Riglar was suffering from an illness and wouldn’t make the game. Though with a much settled team just the one change that defeated Sherborne Town midweek.
Westlands started off the brighter whilst Gillingham struggled to get to grips with the game, though Westlands failed create and early chances whilst on top the Gillingham defence held firm and to allow the rest to get adjusted.
Though one close range shot from Westlands forced an outstanding save from Gill keeper Dale Hind’s to keep the score level.
Gillingham forced a couple chances the best being a through ball allowing Lewis Coker one on one from a tight angle only to strike wide. Much of the first half was lacklustre from both sides in what summed up the first half.
Gillingham made a change at halftime due to an injury and stated much brighter. Forcing Westlands back and using the ball much better and looking more likely to score. A brilliant shot from Caleb Pack outside the box took a slight deflection and ricocheted off the crossbar much to Westlands relief.
Both teams held firm and wasn’t until the very last minute of the game Westlands create their only chance in the second half though a goal line clearance from Bayley Pitman stopped an inevitable goal.
Though mere secs later Gillingham were through one on one again with seconds to spare with an injured Harry Stockley ran onto a through ball allowing himself to get a shot off though it was straight at the goalkeeper.
Both teams will settle for the draw in a game that could’ve went either way.
The young GTFC team are starting to get the results they deserve with another fine point away from home.
