Game3

For the third time within a month, the reserve sides of Bridport and Sherborne met and this time the points were shared.

Sherborne had the better of the first half, kicking with a strong wind at St Mary’s they were able to keep and threaten the backline of the bees on numerous occasions. Bridport struggled with ball retention and lacked any flow. The deadlock was broken halfway through the first half, Sherbornes winger was able to beat the offside trap and assisted their forward who had no problem finding the net. Archie Kershaw was called upon to keep the score at 1-0 and the Bees crossbar was also rattled.

A much improved Bridport created numorous chances in the second half. Noah House delivered a number of threatening corners, one of which was well recycled by Dan Baggs and Harry Boultons volley was cleared of the line. Josh Baker then bicycled toward the top corner - denied by a decent stop by Hulland in the Sherborne goal. Next House lobbed the keeper but also the bar when one on one. House was the prevented by the keeper in his next one on one opportunity. A Taiwo free kick was saved down low. Another delivery into the box was narrowly flicked over the bar by Baker. Bridport used all 5 replacements who all made impacts on the game and a change in formation helped the Bees to find a well deserved equaliser - good feet by Baggs set Baker up to touch and unleash a half volley from 20 yards which was unstoppable into the stanchion. The Bees pressed for a winner but ran out of time.

Bridport didn’t have it all their own way in the 2nd period, needing Kershaw to make two strong saves and Frankie Hodge, on debut, to combine with Jake Childs to clear off the line as the game became stretched. An entertaining affair ending 1-1.
